Some people think that choosing their new set of clubs is as easy as looking for the biggest price tags. The most expensive clubs usually look great, and have a huge amount of technology in them or used in the production of them, but that doesn’t automatically mean they are the best clubs for you.
The top golf irons now are the ones with a cavity back design, they have extra metal added to the back of the club head around the edge, and then more metal at the bottom on the back with a cavity between that weight and the club face. The extra weight around the edge helps to stiffen the head so it doesn’t twist on impact and increases the size of the sweetspot, while the weight near the bottom helps you get the ball up into the air. Most irons are a cavity back design at the moment, which means there is not that much variety when choosing your irons.
Yet if you look at the world of drivers then the companies have a lot more room to innovate with and there are all sorts of different things being tried out in this field. You could get a square driver which takes the concept of adding strength to the edges of the head to the extreme, and due to the square head with weight in the far corners then the sweetspot is huge so you are more likely to hit your shot straight. Or you have adjustable drivers with weights you can shift around to help combat that vicious hook or slice you suffer with, there are even ones with two faces (one inside the head) to help your shot.
