The fear of having stretch marks can bother any individual. Many people affiliate them with maternity, but stretch marks are also induced by weightlifting, weight gain and sometimes puberty, things that causes the skin to stretch somewhat quickly.

If you already have them you are likely looking for a means to lighten stretch marks. While removing them entirely is difficult unless you have a surgical procedure, it is viable to reduce the look of them.

There are a variety of skin treatments that can help reduce the appearance, like laser therapy or micro dermabrasion. There are more invasive surgeries like a abdominoplasty, which is more common after losing weight or giving birth. However there are less aggressive treatments also, the most common of which is using something like Palmer’s stretch mark cream. The most important thing to remember when using a stretch mark cream is that it needs to be used every single day for a period of time for it to help.

The fear of developing stretch marks may be especially tough during maternity because the body is already going through so many changes. The weight gain itself can be difficult for many women and there is of course the strain of losing that pregnancy weight quickly after as well. Despite that it is essential to gain the appropriate amount of weight to have a healthy baby. Women who don’t gain enough weight have a higher risk of having an underweight or premature baby. But gaining too many pounds can create other health problems like high blood pressure, vericose veins and backaches. It can also cause a higher probability of creating stretch marks, and making it harder to lose the additional weight after the the birth of the baby.

If you are concerned about developing stretch marks, whether during pregnancy or before starting a weightlifting routine, your best defense is prevention. It’s best to prepare and use a healing stretch mark cream for stretch mark prevention. Stopping them from forming works better than trying to get rid of them after they have already developed.

High blood pressure has the distinction of being known as a silent killer. This is because people suffering from hypertension show may not show any outward signs of this ailment. And, whether it’s poor diet, sedentary lifestyle, stress or just some sort of genetic hiccup, the average American’s blood pressure is rising higher and higher as the years go on. There are other reasons for this increase as well. Certain ethnic groups are more prone to hypertension than others and the United States has sizeable communities of almost every ethnic group so, on average, the U.S is showing a higher percentage of people with this problem.

Regular physical activity can help lower hypertension. Don’t be put off by the phrase “regular physical activity.” This simply means choose something you enjoy and do it on a regular basis. You can walk, run, job, bike, swim, even use a rowing machine. Just do it for a minimum of 15 minutes a day at least four to five times a week. That’s the best way to start. This blood pressure exercise will strengthen your heart, as the Mayo Clinic advises, and putting less burden on your heart will make you healthier overall.

So start your exercise program sooner rather than later. Do some jumping jacks, go for a swim, row on your rowing machine, kick-box, do aerobics. Anything you do to strengthen your heart will be a good way to help eliminate hypertension.

Note that this is not medical advice and is informational only. Always consult your doctor or medical professional before starting any exercise program.

I’m finding that it is possible to download some great software tools to help improve my efficiency at work and at home. I have learned that some can be downloaded at no charge, but others do come at a cost. Finding good antivirus software for your computers is one of thefirst things to emphasize.

Keep in mind that when you see free virus protection software, it is supposed to be used only for your computer at home. Although the free software will protect you from the most terrible attacks, there are other threats that can be a problem. Just know that the free downloads will not give you the same protection as the full packages that are sold at a modest price.

Finally, as the business world leans towards a paperless environment, there is the need to be able to consolidate and organize all types of files from hundreds of software applications. Translating to pdf format spreadsheets, database results, document files and photographs will be more and more common.

Several companies offer products to help in the process of working with pdf files, Adobe being the primary player. If you are going to write, edit and perform other tasks, you are likely to need the Acrobat software by Adobe, although there are other choices available. If all you want to do is read pdf files, and do not need to edit or create them, the free Reader software may be all you need.

Whatever way you go on purchasing using free software, the ability to work with pdf files will be an unavoidable skill. This is not likely to change in the foreseeable future.

Introduction

Central to the mythology of mirrors is Narcissus a Boeotian hero, who disliked those who loved him for his own natural beauty. He famously gazed into a pool of water and was so fascinated with the reflection, that he was unable to bring himself to leave the image. Not realising that the image he could see was of his own natural beauty, he couldn’t bring himself to leave the image, and he perished.

The concept of how the mirror works is quite simple. It stems simply from the reflective surface of still water and therefore nature plays its part. When you look down into a puddle or a dark pool of water, the smooth water reflects the light straight back into your eyes.

Mirrors work in exactly the same way, in that a mirror is made up of a coated glass surface which when a polished metal surface or metal film is applied behind the glass, light cannot shine through and so reflects the image back. Young children especially, are always fascinated when they look into a mirror for the first time and see their own reflection staring back at them. Anyone who has young children will remember the vision of their young son kissing their image on a mirror. My eight year old daughter loves sitting in front of her mirror applying her make up nearly as much as my fifteen year old daughter!

Where would we be today without mirrors? Mirrors are generally used for personal grooming or interior decoration and have developed from a luxury item into a necessity. There is an enormous variety of mirror shapes and sizes and over the years, mirrors have gradually developed to meet many different requirements. Today there is a large selection of mirrors to suit every requirement, ranging from small mirrors to large mirrors, framed, unframed and includes bathroom mirrors, decorative mirrors, illuminated mirrors, LED mirrors, shaving mirrors, make up mirrors and demister mirrors.

Away from personal use, mirrors are also used as part of scientific apparatus such as cameras, lasers, telescopes and periscopes, to reflect light and used as tools in dentistry and medical care. Not to mention the beauty and hair salon industries.

History of Mirrors

The history of mirrors as far as we can see dates back over 8,000 years. The earliest known mirrors were made from pieces of polished stone such as obsidian, a naturally occurring glass from cooled volcanic lava flows. In Anatolia in Turkey, examples of obsidian mirrors dated at around 6000 BC have been found. In south and central America, polished stone mirrors from around 2000 BC on wards have also been found. From around 3000 BC mirrors of polished copper are known to have been crafted in ancient Egypt.

The first metal coated glass mirrors are thought to have been made in the first century AD, in Sidon, known today as Lebanon. The Roman author Pliny makes reference to glass mirrors backed with gold leaf in his Naturalis Historia, one of the largest reference books to have survived from the Roman Empire, which focused on natural and man-made objects and was written in around 77 AD. The Romans also created a technique for making crude mirrors by using molten lead to coat blown glass.

In the 10th Century Arabian Physicists, considered different types of mirrors, reflecting mirrors and parabolic mirrors and another discussed concave and convex mirrors in both cylindrical and spherical geometries. In undertaking various experiments with mirrors, finding the point on a convex mirror at which a ray of light coming from one point is reflected to another point was solved.

During the period of the 14th to 17th Centuries, across Europe a method of coating glass with a tin-mercury amalgam was perfected by manufacturers. Venice was recognised for its glass making expertise and soon became a centre of mirror production using this new technique. Glass mirrors from this period were extremely expensive luxuries.

The particular process of silvering to produce the first silvered-glass mirror is credited to German chemist Justus von Liebig in 1835. He developed a process to apply a thin layer of metallic silver onto glass through the chemical reduction of silver nitrate. The process was adapted for mass production and led to the greater availability of affordable mirrors and formed the basis of what we now consider the normal way to produce a mirror today.

The evolution of the mirror over the years is quite interesting, if like me you love mirrors! It has evolved from a luxury item to an item which is now taken for granted in daily use. Today, walk into any store to look at mirrors and the selection is vast, with many technology features now finding there way into mirrors, to give added simplicity, luxury and decoration.

An enormous range of unique eye catching designs for bathroom mirrors are now available such as the inclusion of LED lights and demisters.

How are Mirrors Made?

The manufacture of mirrors includes the application to a suitable material of a reflective coating. Glass is the most common material, due to its ability to take a smooth finish and its rigidity. Glass is also more scratch resistant than many other materials previously used for making mirrors.

Early mirrors were made of solid metal, bronze or silver and they were far too expensive for many. Metal is also prone to corrosion and because of polished metal’s low emissivity, antique mirrors were less suitable for indoor use. With indoor lighting at the time supplied by candles or lanterns, the metal mirrors reflected a much darker picturecompared to modern glass mirrors.

In modern times ‘float glass’ is used in the manufacture of mirrors, which is a flat ribbon of glass which is run out of a furnace and along the surface of a bath of molten tin. The temperature of both the glass and molten tin is controlled to enable both surfaces to be made perfectly flat. There are now three common types of mirrors: plain – which has a flat surface, and the two spherical types of mirrors: the convex and the concave. The concave and convex mirrors can be used in an entertaining way, when used at fairgrounds or amusement parks to distort peoples figures reflected in them through bloating, stretching and shrinking, the person or object in front of them.

In some applications, a mirror isn’t a mirror at all. For example, when used in public conveniences, especially in public or factory toilets, where for reasons of cost and the need for greater durability, a single polished metal sheet is often installed as a form of mirror.

Different Types of Mirror

Throughout the ages, mirrors have been employed as symbols of truth, deception and vanity. Mention a mirror and you instantly know that if you look into one, you will see your own reflection staring back at you. The image you see will resemble your own appearance. In optical principles, the reflections in mirrors do not totally match the objects in front of them. When looking into the mirror, trace the contour of the reflection of your head in a mirror. The reflection may correspond in proportion, but will generally be half in actual size.
With such a variety and huge range of mirrors now available, much has been made of the amount of money spent in purchasing mirrors especially by women, although in this day and age with an increase in men purchasing cosmetics, some men will also be vain enough to carry a mirror.

The vain Queen in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs famously asked her special mirror, “Mirror, Mirror on the Wall, who’s the fairest of them all?” Mirrors are synonymous with truth.
Mirrors are frequently used in interior decoration to create an illusion of space, and to decorate and amplify the apparent size of a room. They will be used around the home, the office, a pub, club or restaurant to good effect. They work particularly well in night clubs, reflecting the many images of light in the club or room to create a feeling of a much bigger space.

Infinity Mirrors provide an effect of never reaching an end, known as ‘infinity breaking’ and are particularly effective when used in a dark environment. I remember experiencing this phenomenon for the first time as a child in a large department store lift, where mirrors where on all sides of the elevator car. For those who are not good in lifts I should think this effect probably does nothing to calm them, perhaps that’s why you don’t see lifts like this anymore Or is it just because I’m getting old and that was a particular style popular in the 70′s!

My next favourite kind of mirror after the infinity mirror is the heated mirror, these mirrors have a heating element or what is called a demister pad mounted on the back. The reason a mirror steams up when you have a shower is because the surface temperature of the mirror is colder than the air temperature and causes the water vapour in the air to condense on the mirror. Some bright spark realised long ago that it if you heated the mirror this would avoid it steaming up, brilliant!

For many years heated mirrors have only featured in very expensive bathrooms usually costing thousands, and quality hotels have used heated mirrors as a neat differentiator from the increasingly popular budget hotels and motels. Of course it is not until you step out of the hotel shower and see yourself in the mirror that you realise it is there! Whilst at the back of your mind you realise this is one of the reasons why this room is more expensive than the other hotel across the street.

Last week I heard the BBC Radio 2 DJ Ken Bruce state that the best shave you ever had will have been in a hotel, to which he attributed the benefit of the heated bathroom mirror as the main reason. I have to agree, and every time I stay in (nice) hotel I always have a really good look at the bathroom with a view to reproducing the best of its features in my own home.

The demister mirror is the main feature of a really great bathroom, well, after the top of the range power shower maybe.

In 1980, ska group The Beat had a UK top ten hit with ‘Mirror in the Bathroom’ and the bathroom is probably the location where we tend to study ourselves the most in mirrors. Many will say that it is not wise to look at yourself in the mirror first thing in the morning, but the bathroom is often the first port of call in the morning. Many bathrooms feature a main bathroom mirror positioned on a wall and a bathroom cabinet with mirror doors. Other than the “oh my god” do I really look like that expression, the uses of a mirror or mirrors in a bathroom will generally be to aid the application of make up, hair styling or shaving.

One of the major problems with bathroom mirrors is that after showering or bathing, the mirror is misted over. A recent addition in the manufacture of heated mirrors is the inclusion of a demister pad which clears the mirror for use in just seconds. Just think never having to again wait for the steam of the bathroom to disappear from the mirror, or having to open the window, before using the mirror to shave or apply make up. The bathroom mirror demister or steam free bathroom mirror is a great invention. Some manufacturers refer to these products as fog free bathroom mirrors and there is now a huge range available, again some with back lights, LED lighting and built in shaver sockets.

Demister mirrors and steam free bathroom mirrors are not the only recent developments on mirrors. As suggested above another reasonably new product is the back lit bathroom mirror. Illuminated mirrors maintain the features of a simple mirror, but will enhance any environment in which they are used with the addition of lighting. As with all mirrors, the range of illuminated mirrors is extensive, with a variety of sizes and shapes available. An Illuminated mirror with shaving point can also be purchased. Illuminated bathroom cabinets with or without shaver sockets are also available.

Mirrors with illuminated LED lights will enhance any bathroom or environment in which they are installed. Being of low energy consumption LED, or light emitting diode, are more environmentally friendly than traditional bulbs. They are designed to withstand the wetness of the bathroom environment. So steam mist will not cause a problem. As a real luxury mirror, illuminated bathroom mirrors and bathroom mirrors with LED lighting can also include a demister, to demist the mirror in just a few seconds and an on/off sensor to activate the lights as soon as motion is detected in front of the mirror. Now bathroom cabinets are also available with inbuilt back lights, and LED lighting for that special something different in your bathroom.

As a bathroom accessory the mirror should come high on the list, in fact can you really have a finished bathroom without a mirror? The enormous selection of styles, types, shapes and sizes means that there must be a mirror to match anyone’s budget. Although some of the latest technological versions such as illuminated, back lit and LED mirrors could be considered to be luxury items, some are not as expensive as you may think.

A new LED mirror is available which has a hand sensor built into it so you can turn the lights on or off by waving your hand in front of the sensor.

Mirrors, Superstition and Auspicious Energy Flow

I have always loved mirrors, probably why I have ended up in the mirrors business! When I was at school I did a project on them, this was before the internet was invented mind so I trawled through piles and piles of reference books in both the school and local library for months. These days of course it would only take a couple of hours on Google, kids these days don’t know how easy they’ve got it!

Once you get immersed in mirrors as I did all those years ago, or ‘mirros’ as I frequently misspelled it, and start researching them, you find that they play a major part in all aspects of life. Mirrors also feature in superstitions. One of the most commonly known superstitions is that someone who breaks a mirror will receive seven years bad luck. A popular belief for this superstition is that mirrors are a reflection of the soul and if a mirror is broken, then part of the soul is broken. Added to this, some believe that the soul regenerates every seven years in an unbroken condition, hence the seven years of bad luck. I bet you’ve always wondered why that was so I’m glad to share that with you!

It is also said that the mirror does not lie. A mirror can show only the truth. It is a very bad omen indeed to see something in a mirror which should not be there! Some cultures also have a custom that a newborn child should not look into a mirror until its first birthday because its soul is still developing.

In the southern United States, it used to be customary to cover the mirrors in a house where the wake of a deceased person was being held. If a mirror was left uncovered or exposed, people believed that the deceased person’s soul would become trapped in any uncovered mirror.

In the ancient art of Feng Shui mirror placement is considered very important. There is a lot of information available about this, and it is a subject that can’t be covered in a mere paragraph or two here. But Chi energy flow can be influenced by mirrors so where the energy needs to be diverted, mirrors can be used for this to great effect. Personally I don’t really conform to these rules, although my mum has mirrors strategically placed all over her house to redirect in-auspicious energy! One of the principles I do follow though is to make sure I don’t have any mirrors pointing at my bed, or the kids beds, as this is said to reflect your dreams back onto you whilst you are sleeping, which is not a good thing if it’s a nightmare!

Conclusion

A mirror is defined as a coated glass surface for reflecting images. There is a huge range of mirrors for commercial use, and available in many shapes and sizes. The most commonly seen uses of mirrors are for personal grooming and interior decoration. As a race we are thoroughly addicted to mirrors. Who can honestly say that they can walk past a mirror without taking a look at themselves?

Over time, mirrors have evolved from a luxury item to an item of necessity and many especially women will always carry a mirror in their hand bags. However, today with technological advancements, some mirrors will be seen as a luxury, particularly those which include illumination, LED or demisting devices. As individuals we spend many hours of our life in a bathroom, so why not treat yourself to one of life’s little luxuries and indulge in a stylish bathroom mirror? After all, let’s be honest, who can really live without mirrors?

A new Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game coming out in 2009 is Darkfall Online. This game has actually been in development for a very long time, for several years. It will be interesting to see how well it does when it comes out. As many gamers know, 2008 wasn’t a very good year for MMORPG’s – Age of Conan, for example, was a complete failure. There are many that believe no game will be able to become as popular as World of Warcraft… but Darkfall Online is definitely going to be a serious contender. It has an absolute ton of features that are totally unique.

If Darkfall Online does become popular, then there will certainly be a market for darkfall gold. According to developers of the game, however, it will apparently be harder for gold farmers to make money since it’s easier to lose gold and items in Darkfall Online than it is in other games like World of Warcraft. And in addition to gold, there will also be people that want to buy darkfall accounts. For many people, it makes a lot of sense to buy gold and accounts, since it means they can instantly get to a high level without spending time leveling up.

To earn enough money to buy gold and accounts, you can always see if you have any depression glass lying around that you can sell on eBay. As the name suggests, “depression” glass is glass that was made around the great depression, and rare designs can fetch high prices.

In certain parts of the world, it is crucial to build structures to withstand the massive shock and damage associated with earthquakes. Unfortunately, science has not yet developed an early warning system that can give immediate notice when an earthquake is imminent. Thus, we are completely at nature’s mercy to survive an earthquake, and steel buildings must be built to withstand an earthquake at any time.

Much research and study has been devoted to learning which types of structures do better in an earthquake. Generally speaking the consensus is that metal buildings fare better than concrete.

However, one might ask: does this mean that all metal buildings can withstand an earthquake? The answer is no. Just because a building is metal does not mean it will automatically fare better in an earthquake.

Metal structures are more likely to survive earthquakes because they are more ductile – they can bend and flex without breaking. This characteristic is very important in a serious earthquake.

The most common type of metal used to build earthquake-safe buildings is steel rebar. Steel rebar has the ductility that is critical to absorbing an earthquake and is very strong, making it the best and most effective option for building in an earthquake zone.

Steel rebar has proven to be an excellent building material that can withstand earthquakes, but it is not fool-proof in and of itself. It must be applied with the correct engineering and architectural principles to maximize its effectiveness.

If you are considering using steel rebar to build an earthquake-resistant structure, be absolutely sure your plans and methods are correct, or hire a builder who is familiar with such structures.

Other types of metal buildings are far less resistant to earthquakes, and can be quite unsafe in earthquake-prone areas. Many metal modular homes are not constructed to withstand the tremendous shock of an earthquake. These types of buildings would be very unsafe in an earthquake zone. Also, sheet metal buildings are very fragile and highly likely to collapse during an earthquake.

Experts do not recommend either of these types of structures to be placed in an earthquake zone. Some zoning laws forbid them altogether.

Another very important factor that influences whether a building will survive an earthquake is the distribution of weight. A building that is top-heavy is more likely to crumble than a building that is lightweight at the top. An earthquake-safe building not only should be constructed with steel rebar but it should be framed with lighter materials in the upper floors and have a heavily reinforced lower section.

The most important factor to take from this information is that just because a building is made of metal doesn’t necessarily mean it is earthquake proof. To be fully earthquake proof, a building needs to be built with the correct materials (like steel rebar) and be built according to the correct standards.

If you are building a commercial building, you owe it to yourself, your customers, and anyone who uses the building to use the best materials and techniques available to you. You want to get the most out of your investment, so give it the attention it merits… construct a steel building.

No-claims discount: One of the significant points of your insurance cover is the no claims discount (NCD). Depending on your insurers, you may get a saving of up to 57.5 percent or as little as 27 percent for a period of twelve months driving with no claims

For 4 years of no claims you may reach a no claims discount of 60 to 70 percent A higher maximum is sometimes offered to older drivers. If you make a claim your NCD will be reduced, however this is decided by the insurers. In the best situation your NCD would be less 3 per cent. If you were to be below 50, this could bereduced by up to 22percent. You could pick upan even larger cut if you have to claim again within a 3 to 5 year period .

Protected noclaims discount: With a number of insurance companies, following a 4 year period , you can protect your NCD. This will cost between 10 and 15 percent of your premium. Having once protected your NCD , claiming once a year will have no effect on your premium..If you make 2 claims with some insurers it will not affect your NCD while others may reduce it as little as 45%.

Driving other cars: Some insurance companies permit the policyholder to drive other cars with thirdparty cover, during an emergency. Some insurers will allow the policyholder to drive other cars in emergency situations, with thirdparty cover.

Named drivers: Named drivers can be added to partner’s policy. They can drive that person’s car but cannot drive other cars with insurance cover. There are some insurance companies who allow named drivers to accumulate their own no claims discount.

Choice of repairer: Be careful to use the insurance companies choice of approved repairers, because if you don’t they will not pay for the repairs.

Courtesy car:Many of the insurers will provide courtesy cars, providing you have used their approved repairer. It is very helpful if your car is off the road for quite a while. However, some insurers only provide a courtesy car if you have had an accident, not if it is stolen. Other insurers will charge an extra premium for providing a courtesy car after theft.

Personal belongings: If your personal belongings are stolen, very few insurers will replace them with new. Most of them factor the age and state of each item before they make a decision on how much to pay.The majority of insurers factor the age and condition of the items, before deciding how much to pay out.

Medical expenses and legal protection:If you require physiotherapy or dental treatment as a result of an accident some insurers will cover this cost. Any legal costs from a car insurance claim is covered by motor legal protection.

In car audio equipment: The majority of insurers will put a ceiling on the amount of cover for audio gear not supplied by the manufacturer. This could be as little as 100 pounds, however, this varies between insurers.

Sat navs: You should always check if your sat nav is covered. Even if it is covered it may not be worth claiming. Your sat nav may not be worth claiming for although it is covered. For your first claim your policy excess may be 100 pounds but a cheap sat nav costs around this. If you claim you will lose you no claims bonus which may work out in the long run more expensive. If a claim is made you will lose your no claims bonus and this will workout much more expensive.

Age limits: They is usually a lower and upper age limit with policies. The upper limit tends to be lower if you are taking out a new policy.

The companies that choose to give you contract phone irrespective of your credit history are 3, O2 and T-mobile. However, you just can’t walk into a showroom and get a guaranteed mobile phone. You can, if you have been in the United Kingdom for many years and you have good credit history. If that is not the case, you can go online and get the contract – of as low as £9 a month, for a minimum of 18 months. And that is cool.

And the place is not the website of the mobile phone service providers. It is somewhere else. A few websites offer you Guaranteed Contract Phones.

A student credit card has a number of very real advantages for students, from providing much needed financial support when you need it to offering a range of incentives, and even the chance to create a good credit record for when you leave education.

One of the things that you must bear in mind is that student credit cards tend to have a much higher rate of interest attached. If you are able and willing to clear the balance each month then you will be fine, but if you are likely to be unable to do this, then it is very important to limit your spending to essential items as the interest could become very costly.

Most student cards have a range of incentives attached, and it will be important to make sure that you pay as much attention to these as to aspects such as fees and interest rates. Both will be important sine the incentives could very easily help save money, depending on your circumstances. From cheap travel to free insurance and even discounts on books, these cards could save you money as you spend it.

Most students have little or no credit history, which means that when you graduate you could find it difficult to obtain a bank account or open a standard credit card. A student credit card provides a good opportunity to demonstrate that you can run a credit account in good order, so that you build a good credit file for later years.

For many years travellers from the north or midlands have invariably used Manchester airport if they were venturing abroad due to the lack of alternative airports and a wider choice of destinations. Whilst Manchester airport still is the main airport there is no doubt that the other airports are catching up fast.

Manchester airport is growing its overall share of the Northern market has decreased with East Midlands airport in particular growing at a greater rate. There is no doubt that travellers would rather to use their local airport and as a regular traveller from all these airports my first choice would be East Midlands followed by Birmingham then Manchester with Leeds a distant fourth due to its poor location.

However if you are flying from Manchester airport and due to departure times you may want to think about using Manchester airport hotel with parking an alternative which is more expensive. But I must admit I do enjoy it, although I have found that airport parking East Midlands and parking at Birmingham airportairport parking Birmingham to be usually less expensive than parking at Manchester airport. On top of cheaper airport parking, reduced travelling costs. Generally it just seems a lot less stressful experience.

There are really only 2 things that would make me choose Manchester airport over either East Midlands or Birmingham airport. One would be the timing of the flight back, not keen on arriving back late in the day or at night which means you spent most of your last day hanging around, which makes for a long day with a drive home after your flight. The second reason is if the price of the flight was much cheaper.
